28 Oct Final Presentations and products created at Datadriven.SG Hackathon by Keboola.asia

This was going to be an unusual hackathon from the day 1 for number of reasons. First, we didn’t have large budget and were bootstrapping the event all the way with the help of our partners, but the idea seemed good enough to convince them to support the event even on a very short notice. Second it was focusing on data itself, data analysis, visualisation and data science rather than ‘usual programmer’ challenges which are relatively common – hence the name DataDriven hackathon. The key component were also real business datasets provided by our fantastic partners such as Skyscanner, Property Guru, Linkedin, Yougov, Digimind or Data.gov.sg and La Marque.

We selected 100 data hackers, mix of data scientists, business analysts, students and some business people and grouped them into 20 teams. The most challenging part and what was stark contrast to most hackathons, was the time frame. But we were confident, because one of the key tools ready for the hackathon was Keboola Connection and Speed and Agility is basically our middle name. On Friday we hosted an intro session for everyone to meet and listen to the partners introducing their datasets and technology that would be available on Saturday, the main day of the Hackathon. To get a good sense of how intense the atmosphere was, check out this photo gallery.

On Saturday we kicked off on early morning and the work was officially concluded by 7 PM; the presentations and judge panel evaluation followed. Most importantly, the teams had only 10+ hours of net work. Take this in consideration when looking at the different project presentations below. In a case you are not familiar, usually hackathons are weekend affairs including overnight hacking. We can begin by describing how amazing some of the projects are given the time available to build them! Take a look for yourself and let us know which you like the best.
